One Day and a Few Hours

Then D will be off for three days...

I've missed my husband. Even though he comes home - gives Squeaky and myself a kiss then promptly takes Squeaky from me to have some "daddy time." It's just not the same as having him home with me.

Granted I felt that way before the Squeaker came into our lives, but now I miss him more... for a lot of reasons - not including that he can wrangle the six mongrels and take care of them while I handle the Squeaker but because he makes this whole parenting thing easier.

My mom and D's parents keep calling to check on us... meaning Squeaky and me... D's dad has offered to come help. D and I have talked about that and truthfully FIL would be more work rather than less and would not make things easier. He means well, but we're doing okay. It's weird having this many people wanting to make sure that we're okay...

Breastfeeding is hit or miss... he still falls asleep at the wheel. My n*pples still are sore but we're still trying. Probably at least every other feed. Half the time he's still asleep or not receptive to the boob and there's only so much rejection a girl can take.

I dreamed that things in the breastfeeding department would be easier. Heck my sister did it, my friends did it... why can't I do it? I had similar feelings about the c-section and water breaking... my sister had the regular plain jane old delivery where they had to break her water and then they had a baby. Why did things have to become so complicated for us? Hadn't we gone through enough crap already to get to this point.

So I'm done whining now... I'll be back to normal shortly. In other news - a good friend is going to have her baby girl tomorrow by c-section. I can't wait to meet her and see her parents become parents.

Our son "sucked" at sucking too. We even had to use a supplemental feeder (basically a thin tube taped onto my wife's nipple) to have him get the hang of nursing. Hang in there! Breastmilk is definitely the best.

I haven't been able to offer much in regards to the breastfeeding b/c I honestly feel that so many women really beat themselves up over it. However, I also understand how it just seems to be "one more thing" that our body hoses us over.

Just know that I'm thinking of you and I want to add that while breast milk is BETTER; BEST is keeping yourself sane and Squeaker healthy.

Congrats! I am the clicker for Parenting after IF/Loss group, so I thought I'd say hi. I hear you on the breastfeeding. My daughter was horrible at it. The pediatrician actually scolded me because she was losing weight after she left the hospital. We did have to bring in a lacatation consultant to try to help things, which it did a bit. I was actually talking to a friend a while back about it- and it's amazing how hard it really is! Everyone expects it to be so easy, and natural, and it's just plain hard for many of us. And the source of many many issues. Try not to take it out on yourself. I know I sure did. I did nurse as long as I could, but my daughter weaned herself by the time she was 5 months. She just wasn't interested. Good luck!! And know that many, many women have similar difficulties. You just don't hear about it as often.

I'm finally home with Arnie and exhausted! But I am back!
Try to stay calm with the breast feeding. I had one natural and one sleeper. Eventually it all worked out and they both did great!
Hugs!!!

Hi! We too are in a similar boat! Landon is on the biliblanket and his levels are finally dropping. Was 13.5, then 13.4, now 12.9. Tomorrow, hopefully even lower and then perhaps we can return the irritating loud humming glow light. Nursing is slow going, but he matched his leaving the hospital weight 2 days later at the peds, so we are not too worried. We go in for a 1 week weigh-in tomorrow, so we will find out then how well he is actually latching on. Don't give up. Nursing is hard work, especially with a baby who wasn't quite done cooking. You are doing what is best for Squeaky - keep up the good work! Even with my full term DS, it was tough to get going and keep the weight on. I think that since Squeaky is gaining, you are doing great!
